Agra Tourist Helpline 112. It works

On my way back from the Taj Mahal I stopped here to buy some local sweets. Convinced by my guide that it was the best and most reasonable. The prices seemed high but one doesnt have the luxury of finding options.

After the purchases, further down we stopped at an assortment of shops to eat something. One of these was selling pethas and the price was one fourth of what we had paid. I was livid and decided to go back and return the considerable purchases. The men gathered around to commiserate and advised me to call 112 if there was a problem.

We reached the shop, the driver insisted on returning the stuff. I sat seething in the car and called 112. My call was duly received and noted with utmost care. The woman on the line assured me that help would be at hand shortly.

The driver meanwhile returned the stuff and got a refund. Probably this was his regular beat and many other plausible implausible reasons.

It looked like rain and we were in a hurry to leave. In the car I got a call from a man telling me that the police was reaching my location. I wish I could have stayed on. He meticulously noted details and said they would deal with the situation.

No way of knowing if they did but I was left speechless by their alacrity and response.

Jiyo India. In Calcutta? Not sure at all.
